Yannis Nikolaou is one of the most experienced strategic communications and leadership advisors in international sport. Over a career spanning more than 30 years, he has shaped strategy, guided decision-making, led campaigns, and delivered world-class events at the very highest levels of global affairs, sport, media, and brand development.
For over 16 years, Yannis served as Senior Communications Manager and Head of Global PR & Campaigns at IAAF/World Athletics, working directly alongside President Sebastian Coe and senior leadership. He has led communications and strategic operations across five Olympic and multi-sport Games — Athens 2004, Doha 2006, Singapore 2010, Doha 2011, and Tokyo 2020 — as well as dozens of World Championships and major events across athletics, basketball, table tennis, handball, gymnastics, and more.
His experience spans presidential and institutional campaigns, crisis communications, global media strategy, talent development, diplomatic engagement, brand growth, and the creation and delivery of major charity events for children. He has collaborated with FIBA, IHF, FIG, ITTF, IBA, ISSF, QOC, and the Global Champions Tour.
